Yoga for those affected by cancer & other chronic illnessesWe're delighted to have secured funding from Life Life Aberdeenshire's Sport for Change Fund to continue these FREE sessions. There will be 2 further blocks of classes running over the next few months.
The next block starts in the New Year and will run for 6 weeks in the lounge from 12:30 - 1:30pm - with the option of tea/coffee and a chat afterwards. Contact Mags Yoga directly for more information and to book your place. |
We’re delighted to have received funding from the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership to employ our lovely coordinator, Lorraine, to take the ReActive8 project forward.
The aim of the project is to develop a programme of social and physical activities which will help support local people’s mental and physical health. The activities will largely take place in the centre during the day, but won’t be limited to that if the demand is there. The funding enables us to run regular coffee mornings and meetings, as well as try a range of different activities, such as music, crafts, gentle keep fit and walking sports. We’ll also be offering activities to aid recovery from injury and long-term health conditions such as cancer. What we run will be very much designed to reflect what local people would like to take part in, so we’re very interested to hear your views and suggestions. So come along to one of our regular coffee mornings, which usually take place in the lounge on the last Wednesday of the month, 10:00am - 12:00pm.
Classes Do you have a hobby or a skill you would like to share with us? Are you skilled in Guitar, Art or Calligraphy? We're looking for folks willing to help provide a class/meeting on a regular basis, the more topics/activities the better! Why not come along and let us know what you're good at? We'd love to hear from you. |

Funding Successes
Knock Through Project
We completed this long-awaited project this month - knocking through from the old hall to the new part of the centre. This was made possible by funding from Developer Obligations and the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee Top Up Fund.
The work involved forming new openings in the block walls between the two existing buildings, supplying and fitting new doors and installing new LED and emergency lighting.
The difference this has made to the way the centre operates is huge. Both staff and centre users have been particularly grateful through the winter as they can now move between halls without having to go outside in all weathers, and mothers waiting for children in classes can wait for them indoors.
Our Out of School Club now have a secure, dedicated entrance to the club and their playground is much more secure - complying with Care Commission recommendations.
Disabled people in the Small Hall can easily access the disabled toilet and parents with babies and small children can access the baby changing facility in the main entrance hallway.

Virtual KiltWalk Fundraiser Team Bettridge Buddies walked a total of 2,244 miles in April 2021 - the equivalent of walking from Newtonhill to the North Pole or Casablanca. Huge thanks to our enthusiastic walkers and to everyone who supported us while we did our #bettridgekiltwalk And we're delighted to say we've raised nearly £1 for every mile walked - which, when boosted by the Hunter Foundation, netted us over £3,000. How fabulous is that! We used these generous donations to help us fund activities for children in the summer holidays and refurbish the lounge toilets. |

You can choose what you would like to help out with and how much time you’re happy to give.

Funding
As an independent charity we support ourselves by renting out space to regular groups and for events such as parties and meetings etc. However we're dependent on grants to cover the costs of essential building maintenance and replacing equipment, as well as special projects such as ReActive8 or our summer holiday programmes. We're very grateful to the following organisations for their support over the past couple of years.
